Browser Recommendations

UT EID Minimum Browser Requirements

The UT EID System requires a standards-compliant web browser with support for SSL 3.0 and with Javascript (1.4 or higher) and Cookies enabled. We strongly recommend that you use current generation browsers whenever possible.

Scholarship Application Recommendations

This OSFS online scholarship application meets the minimum UT EID browser requirements described above. We recommend using one of the following browsers to complete your application:

Mozilla Firefox 3.0 or higher for Mac, Windows, and Linux
Apple Safari 4.0 or higher for Mac
Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher for Windows

The following browsers are NOT supported:

Netscape (any version)*
Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac (any version)**
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 for Windows (any versions before 7.0)***

*Since use of Netscape has decreased considerably and the commitment to continued maintenance is uncertain, it is no longer one of the recommended browsers for UT Austin web sites. It is also, no longer being included in the Bevoware software bundle. Given this, and the fact that there are viable alternatives, we recommend using one of the preferred browsers above instead of Netscape.

**Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh is no longer supported by Microsoft and is no longer one of the recommended browsers for University of Texas at Austin web sites. We recommend Macintosh users use either Safari or Firefox.

***As of June 1, 2009, Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) for Windows is no longer listed as a recommended browser. Internet Explorer 7 for Windows has been available since October 2006, and provides improved security and improved support for Web standards over IE 6.
